What is my niche?

1. In terms of a medium, my emphasis would definitely be motion design. When working in programs like Premier, After Effects, and Cinema 4D I can excel and bring more ideas to light. The challenge of not only conceptualizing an idea, but adding fluid motion to a project is a challenge I look forward to each and every time. On a secondary note, I come from the fine art world, specifically oil painting, so I know I bring a unique and separate set of skills to my design approach. Besides motion I also offer illustration and branding services as well. I'm still very fascinated by graphic elements that tell a cohesive story.
2. As I brought up in my show and tell, I'm interested in working with athletic brands such as Nike or Adidas. My goal is to develop motion pieces that accompany marketing campaigns around new product launches. Someone like Simon Holmedal create these visually stunning creative works to accompany shoe releases or new technologies. Additionally my other target market is in the film and television industry. Firms like Antibody develop these immersive worlds for title sequences that help draw the viewer into the story.
3. My services address the problems of companies who are looking for creative branding and storytelling to set themselves apart from the pack. My work specifically will aim to use those fine art tools from my past and blend them through a designer lens to create a unique product. The types of problems I'm looking to solve have more to do with a marketing perspective. How does a film entice its intended audience? What visuals could help sell the latest and greatest Nike shoe? These types of questions would be a challenge of not only technical skill, but they're the types of projects I aspire to create.
4. From what I can tell, it was hard to discren exactly how many designers are in each of my intended fields. There are a couple smaller firms that seem to handle a large portion of the design work, so the barrier of entry might be tougher.
- Legwork is a local motion house that takes a more illustrative, and weirder approach to design, which I do appreciate. They tend to brand projects in a more goofy manner and have all this absurd imagery on their site.
- Polynoid takes on two divisions. They seem to have an art/passion project side and another made for marketing particularly Adidas products. Their style looks a bit more metallic and futuristic.
- Gunner studio takes a much more illustrative approach and places passion and feeling at the top of their list. Their style tends to be more colorful, playful, and all around lighter hearted.
