Pitch Deck Outline
Design Problem: New fans to the Premier League generally have no ties to the region and therefore have no base into how they pick a favorite team.
Research Question: "What role can motion design play in steering new fans towards their proper Premier League team?"
SME: Gabe Martinez. He is a good friend and knows more about soccer and club culture than I could ever know.
DME: Josh Blair. He is a graduate of the Digital Design program and worked with me at a media broadcast company. He has experience in creating sports branded packages and excellent at organization and meeting deadlines.
Research Summations:
In short there are a number of "guides" to help someone find their perfect Premier League team, but they basically boil down to 2 options. Either the author just offers small tidbits about each club or there's a Buzzfeed style quiz that uses arbitrary questions to pick your team for you.
Based on most Gallup polls and TV ratings soccer has been growing at a slow and steady rate especially amongst younger viewers. In terms of participation soccer is also growing and leads the other major sports in terms of youth participation.
We as humans are tribal in nature and these instincts have remained with us in our modern lives. The way we identify with a group used to boil down to survival but now we measure how well our group is doing by wins and losses. There's also a sense of community and belonging when you support a team.
Current Solutions:
Task Analysis:
Future Research: I’ll need to further dive into what makes each soccer club distinctive and how I can capture that in a short motion piece. I’ll also need to dive deeper into how fans select clubs and what motivates people to root for a certain team.
Production: I’ll need to be updated my process book along the whole journey of this project. Ideally I’d like to have the rough cuts by end of March.
The art gallery: The exhibition space will definitely need a monitor for display purposes and some print collateral to aid in the branding of the project.
